What is a theme?

Some people may think a theme is where or when a story takes place. For example: A pirate ship or in the middle ages. The theme of a book is actually the universal message the story conveys to the reader. Some popular themes include but are not limited to: Good Vs. Evil, Family, Trust, Loyalty, Forgiveness, Coming of Age, and Justice. Themes cause readers to think critically about a deeper message and universal truths and may even cause them to view a character archetype in a different light. A good book will cause you to think and may even open your eyes to something going on in your own life, something you can relate to. Next time you read a book, think of what the story is trying to tell you. What message does it convey? Comment below about a theme you would like to read about or have read about.

Until next time…
